In response to a shortage of occupational therapists in west Georgia, the Medical College of Georgia created a satellite campus for the Department of Occupational Therapy at Columbus State University (CSU) in the fall of 1999. A collaborative arrangement was developed between the Medical College of Georgia and Columbus State University so that occupational therapy students are provided with access to the library, student activities, and student services on the campus of CSU. The Department of Occupational Therapy offers the Master of Health Science degree program by distance learning. Classroom space with Master of Health Science distance learning equipment is provided to the faculty and students by Columbus State University. Clinical facilities utilized by the faculty and students are from primary health-care and community-based settings located throughout west Georgia. Distance learning technology provides students on the CSU campus exposure to both faculty and students on the Augusta campus of the Medical College of Georgia.
