Thank you so much for your interest in our Dental Hygiene program. The dental hygiene program is accredited by the American Dental Association's Commission on Dental Accreditation. The BS-DH and the MS-AH programs require full-time on campus commitments. However, the MS-AH will be tailored to match the learning needs of students enrolled.

BS-DH Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene

The BS-DH Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene Program is accredited by the ADA’s Commission on Dental Accreditation and is a 2+2, which means that it requires that 2 years of general college requirements (60 hours) be completed at a college or
university and the final 2 years would be completed in our dental hygiene program.

 

Personal interviews are not required for the admissions process. Applicants are encouraged to shadow or observe in a dental hygiene clinic session to see dental hygiene education in action. Please contact the department to arrange a shadowing appointment.

 

Program application deadline is April 1. Classes begin each Fall (August) semester only. Please visit the Dental Hygiene Admissions Information page to obtain the most current program information.

MS-AH Master of Science in Allied Health for Dental Hygiene

The MS-AH graduate program prepares dental hygienists for opportunities, beyond clinical practice, such as education, research, administration, and corporate careers.

 

GENERAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Evaluation of foreign educational transcripts must show a degree earned that is at least the US equivalency of a Bachelor's Degree.

Submit application by December 1 for Summer Entry (no fall entry). Applications and supporting materials received after the program deadline will be considered on a space-available basis only.

Official transcripts are required from all colleges ever attended. Transcripts should be mailed to MCG's OAA directly from the Registrar's office of the institution. Applicants may also deliver or mail official transcripts to MCG's OAA if the transcript remains in
the original, unopened, sealed and stamped/signed envelope from the Registrar's office at the institution.

An official, professional course-by-course evaluation is required for all foreign educational transcripts and documents from one
of the following three credentials evaluation services: Josef Silny & Associates, Inc., World Education Services (WES), Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc. (ECE).


Three reference forms must be submitted from each referee. Referees should be individuals who are qualified to assess applicants prior academic, work, research and/or clinical experience as applicable.


GRE is required. All official GRE scores must be submitted to MCG's OAA directly from the Education Testing Service (ETS) and must be less than five years old. The institution code for submission of GRE scores to MCG is 5406. Do not select a department code.


Official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test scores are required for applicants whose first language is not English. The institution code for submission of TOEFL scores to MCG is 5406. Do not select a department code. Minimum score
of 550 paper-based, 213 computer based or 79 internet based.


PROGRAM SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:
Personal Interview required (includes writing sample).


Must have licensure to practice dental hygiene.


Complete essay that is part of the application/supplement form.

 

ADMISSION RECOMMENDATIONS:

A GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred. The admissions committee may consider candidates with a lower GPA based on extenuating circumstances, test scores (GRE), strengths in other areas and acceptance on a probationary status.


GRE: Competitive applicants will have a minimum combined verbal and quantitative score of 1000
.

BS-DH Applicants Only: If you have taken college courses already, your next step is to request an unofficial transcript evaluation to find out if the classes that you have taken will transfer into core requirements required by MCG. This is a free preliminary evaluation of your course work.
