Tony Molini was a graduate of the NMT Program under the direction of Dr. Wanda M. Hibbard (Mundy) in 1980. Since his graduation, he has been a fixture in the Nuclear Medicine Technologist community in the CSRA, displaying an unyielding eye for detail and professional excellence in his role as a NMT in a number of clinics in the Augusta area. Tony was a patient and diligent preceptor to the many students who came through the MCG program. Whether it was as a guide through the complexities of a HIDA patient’s laboratory values or a discourse on the ineptitude of setting the camera to shoot a “satellite” view, he was unwavering in his advocacy for good nuclear medicine and his genuine efforts to be a good professional model for student technologists. He led by example in his greater depth of learning beyond the minimum standards and requirements of the NMT and to demonstrate what it really means to “be an advocate for the patient.” Today’s students receive the benefit of his legacy in the bit of his humanity that was integrated into the philosophies of the Program Director and the Clinical Education Coordinator. Graduates from Augusta have carried his legacy to all areas of Georgia and no professional meeting is ever adjourned without the mention of his name.
Even as Tony faced the prospect of death, he continued his dedication to the advancement of healthcare and medicine. He eagerly participated in experimental treatments, anxious to explain the particulars of biochemical processes and rationales that suggested progress and promise. His dedication to medicine moved us to tears when he, in that sincere and earnest way of his, told us that “certainly you know that any procedures or information about the course of my treatment or disease that would be useful for student education, I would hope you would use.” We miss you Tony.
