Online Program

Frequently Asked Questions for Online Students  

  1. Are online students required to have all the immunizations listed for on-campus students?
    Yes, all students must have the immunizations required. 

  2. Which fees are online students required to pay if they are NOT attending another USG campus?
    Students who live more than 30 miles outside of Augusta can have their activity, wellness and health fee waived. All students pay the technology fee. 

  3. How do online students obtain a student ID badge?
    Students will have to come to campus to get an ID badge.   

  4. How do online students register for classes?
    Students should call the Registrar's office to be cleared for registration. Once cleared, they will be transferred to the cashier to pay their fees. They can call at their regular registration time (706) 721-2201. 

  5. Are the new students able to access their tuition bill online?
    New students can access their bill online. Instructions for doing this are in the online orientation. Bills will be available approximately 10 days prior to the first day of class. 

  6. What are the hardware and software requirements for the online program?

IBM-compatible PC 

  • Pentium II/233 MHz processor or higher; Pentium III/4 processor recommended
  • 64MB of RAM (128MB or higher preferred)
  • CD-ROM, CD-RW or DVD-RW recommended
  • 20GB hard drive (30GB or higher preferred)
  • SVGA (1024 x 768 or higher) display
  • Full duplex sound card with speakers/headphones and microphone
  • Windows operating system, Windows 2000 or higher recommended
  • 56b modem and/or Ethernet card or wireless card
  • Internet connection through an ISP account or a network; cable, DSL or satellite high-speed access highly recommended

Macintosh 

  • PowerPC  120MHz processor or higher; G4 processor recommended
  • 64MB of RAM (128MB or higher preferred)
  • CD-ROM, CD-RW or DVD-RW recommended
  • 20GB hard drive (30GB or higher preferred)
  • 1024 x 768 or higher display resolution, thousands of colors
  • Full duplex sound with a microphone
  • System 8.0 or higher operating system
  • 56kb modem and/or Ethernet card or wireless card
  • Internet connection through an ISP account or a network; cable, DSL or satellite high-speed access highly recommended

Software 

  • Netscape 6.0 or higher, or Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher
  • Windows Media Player 9.0 or higher for access to Tegrity presentations
  • Microsoft Office XP Professional (or higher to include Access)
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader 6.0 or higher

Proprietary browser versions (those not downloaded directly from Netscape or Microsoft) may not work reliably with online systems. If you use other “Office” type programs, please note that some professors may require you to convert your files to a MS-Office compatible format for online submission. Your connection to the Internet may initiate behind a firewall; however, the firewall settings may have to be adjusted to allow for proper functioning of our Web-based tools.

Requirements for using online WebCT courses

  1. To access a course(s), student should go to http://www.curriculumii.mcg.edu/webct/public/home.pl, and then log in to MyWebCT. All courses to which you have been given access should be listed. If you have trouble logging in or courses are missing from your list, contact:

  1. Students should review the “Orientation to WebCT” prior to beginning their first online course. The orientation is available via the CD you received in the mail and in MyWebCT.

  2. Students taking online courses are expected to communicate with the course instructor by email and/or the course bulletin board on a regular basis.

  3. Students should visit each course they are enrolled in and monitor the bulletin board and email at least twice per week.

  4. Students who experience technological problems while accessing WebCT should contact:

    Solutions to common technical issues/problems are available via the “Read this First” icon present in all courses.

  5. Students are responsible for maintaining current virus scan software on their personal computers. Files should be scanned before uploading into WebCT or sent via email . Files containing a virus will not be accepted.

  6. Students should disable Pop-Up Blocker software and Personal Firewalls to allow for accessibility of all WebCT course materials. Failure to do so may result in the inability to access pertinent course information and assignments.
