MCG Family Medicine Residency ProgramWelcome!
Choosing a residency program is one of the most important decisions of your medical career. A broad base of knowledge and clinical skills are required by the discipline. Our family medicine residency program offers the opportunity for the new physician to further develop his or her medical knowledge and skills in a variety of areas. We also have an outstanding faculty whose varied interests allow residents to participate in patient and family centered care in several areas of special interest including geriatrics, sports medicine, rural medicine, office based research, health services research, electronic medical informatics, medical telecommunications, behavioral medicine, office laboratories, pharmacokinetics, health promotion, faculty development and advanced procedural skills development. We are proud of our program and confident that it provides an excellent opportunity for residents to receive superior postgraduate education in a community-oriented setting and to deliver patient and family centered care.
In addition to the fully equipped Family Medicine Center where residents treat patients in continuity, residents rotate through the main teaching hospital at the Medical College of Georgia and at our affiliate, University Hospital. Three rural satellite clinics are staffed entirely by our residents and faculty and provide insight into the unique problems encountered in rural health care. These patient resources, the Family Medicine Consult Services and the resources offered by the Medical College of Georgia provide excellent resident training. We participate in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) which transmits residency applications, letters of recommendations, Dean's letters, transcripts and other supporting credentials to residency program directors via the Internet. The ERAS website is http://www.aamc.org/about/progemph/eras.
