The Office of Technology Transfer and Economic Development is a unit reporting to the Vice President for Research, Frank Treiber, Ph.D.  Being a college-wide resource, the OTTED serves all of the faculty, staff and students who create intellectual property and biological materials using resources and facilities at MCG.

Dr. Nawrot has overall responsibility for managing MCG’s intellectual property, fostering economic development based on that intellectual property and overseeing the operation of the business incubator located on campus.

 He received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the Northwestern University Medical School and went on to hold research faculty appointments at the Universities of Wisconsin and Michigan.  After eight years in academics, he continued a life sciences career with Abbott Laboratories, Centocor, Inc. and Baxter Healthcare Corporation.  He provided tech transfer consulting services to the University of Pennsylvania and was the founder of two biotech companies, Tektagen, Inc., a biosafety testing lab in Malvern, PA and TheraCyte, Inc., a cell therapy company in Irvine, CA. He brings entrepreneurial and large company business experience to MCG’s commercial enterprises.

Dr. Carl Clark comes to MCG after serving as the Director of Marketing and Licensing in the Office of Technology Commercialization for the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. He has four years experience in technology licensing, marketing, and business development while at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Prior to that, Carl worked for fifteen years with Pierce Corporation where he was involved in technology licensing and business development. Carl has been involved in many complex, multi-stage licensing transactions both domestically and internationally. Carl earned his Ph.D. in biochemistry from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan and has completed two post-doctorate fellowships in immunology and hematology/oncology.

Stacy comes to the Center of Innovation for Life Sciences with entrepreneurial and research-oriented experience. After graduating from the University of Georgia with a chemistry degree and a doctorate in inorganic chemistry from Carnegie-Mellon University, Stacy launched a science toy company and invented a crystal growing kit for children. She received a patent on the kit in 2004 and sold it on children’s websites and via a major retailer. Her experience also includes securing intellectual property rights and navigating the product approval process for retail sale. And, as an inventor who has been on both sides of the patent process, she understands first-hand the conception to commercialization process.

Mr. Kourosh Sabet-Payman handles the legal and marketing issues related to the Office of Technology Transfer (OTT). Kourosh comes to the OTT from having worked previously in legal affairs and marketing in both software and pharmaceutical companies. Kourosh has handled a variety of legal and business development issues related to technology licensing and contractual negotiations, including intellectual property matters, revenue recognition issues, and partnership development. Kourosh earned his Bachelor's degree in Biology from George Washington University, his law degree from George Mason University and his Master's in Biotechnology from Johns Hopkins University.

Mrs. Julie Kelley is the Administrative Assistant to the Associate VP as well as the Coordinator for Material Transfer and Confidentiality Agreements for the Office of Technology Transfer (OTT).  She handles all of the administrative responsibilities of the department, including the invoicing of the licensees of intellectual property and all aspects of the three departmental budgets.  Julie earned her Bachelor’s of Business Administration from The University of West Alabama.

Mrs. Brenda Blue serves as Office Specialist to the Office of Technology Transfer and Economic Development. She brings with her many years of experience in office management and client relations.
