Materials Transfer Agreements

A Materials Transfer Agreement (“MTA”) should be in place whenever an MCG faculty member receives or transmits to anyone outside of MCG any type of physical material such as cell lines, animals, reagents, chemicals, etc.  This form is important in providing a paper trail of ownership, and alerts all parties to any restrictions that might exist on use and/or commercialization.

When federal funds have been used in the development of such materials, they have to be made freely available to other investigators, but under reasonable terms, conditions, and timing.

The form has to be signed by the appropriate MCG representative, in addition to the researchers providing and receiving the material prior to the transfer of any material. Faculty signatures are not sufficient or legally binding.

The forms are prepared through the Office of Technology Transfer and Economic Development.  Contact this office at (1-9822) for the proper forms and securing the appropriate signatures.

Any faculty member who wishes to receive or send materials should forward the information below to our office via email to jukelley@mcg.edu or telephone Julie Kelley at 721-4122:

v     Faculty member name, department and campus mailing address

v     Brief description of the material

v     Brief statement on the proposed use of the material

v     Name, university or company, and mailing address of the other party

You will be notified once the MTA has been signed by the appropriate MCG representative and is ready for pick up.  There will be two originals to be mailed to the other party.  Their authorized representative is to sign both and return one fully executed original to our office.
