Accessing MCG

There are a number of ways in which companies can interact with the Medical College of Georgia.

The classical model is that of licensing one of our technologies. Our inventions usually have an issued patent or a patent pending (though some creative works are best protected through other mechanisms like copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets, etc). Upon request, we can share with you non-confidential summaries of our available technologies that may have a fit with your product line or plans for the future.

If there is one or more technologies in which you have a serious interest, we can exchange Confidentiality Agreements so that we can provide you with all the detail you need to determine if this technology is what you need. In that case, we then negotiate and consummate a license agreement (exclusive or non-exclusive) with terms and conditions common to the industry. You may also wish to support advanced research in the lab of the inventor. Alternatively, if you need more time or want to see a program make more progress before making a commitment, you can acquire an option. This agreement affords you the time you need and protects you from having the technology from being acquired by a third party for a set period of time.

As illustrated below, there are a number of other ways in which a firm can work with MCG faculty and/or gain access to its unique resources.  Assuming that the effort does not detract from the teaching and research missions of MCG, but compliments them, arrangements can usually be made so that the company and MCG both benefit because of our mutual interests.
