The policy of the Medical College of Georgia is that
inventors should share in the income realized from the commercialization of the
intellectual property that they developed.
The precise split of net income (gross income less any direct legal and
administrative costs) depends on the nature of MCG’s role and the type of
invention. However, as a general rule,
most patents and copyrights associated with MCG assisted or sponsor-supported
inventions will be as follows:
| Inventor(s) | 35% |
| MCG | 35% |
| Dept. or Div. | 10% |
| MCGRI | 20% |
Income collected by the OTTED is turned over to the Medical College of Georgia Research Institute (MCGRI) for accounting and distribution, inasmuch as MCGRI is the owner or “assignee” of patents and copyrights from this institution.
