Institutional Review Boards:

The Medical College of Georgia relies on two institutional review boards (IRB) to ensure the highest quality of human research protections and efficient business processes. As such, we are pleased to offer the following information on these two IRBs:

Types of Studies	All studies that are conducted by MCG, MCGHI, or Augusta VAMC faculty, staff or students or that utilize any resources of the MCG, MCGHI, or Augusta VAMC	Only those studies that meet all four of the following criteria: Industry Sponsored Industry Initiated Multi-Center Clinical Trials Cannot be conducted at the Augusta VAMC as the VA regulations prohibit the use of a commercial IRB
Meeting Frequency	Once per month	Three times per week
Electronic Submissions	No: At this time, hard copy submissions are required. The HAC has purchased a software system, eProtocol, to be implemented.	Yes: CRRI does accept electronic submissions at http://www.cirbi.net. Please visit CRRI's submission page for details. Note that institutional routing still applies, and the principal investigator must copy the Office of Human Research Protection(OHRP@mcg.edu) and the Division of Sponsored Programs Administration (DSPA@mcg.edu).
Fees	The Office of Human Research Protection (OHRP) Business Manager will bill the industry or corporate sponsor a one-time submission fee of $1,500. Studies that receive funding from non-industry or non-corporate sponsors or those studies with no external funding are exempted from the submission fee. Effective July 1, 2008, IRB Submission fees will be $2500 and continuing reviews will be $500.	CRRI will bill the sponsor directly for each action. Make certain that this information is included during budget and contract negotiations. For more information regarding the fee schedule, please refer to the CRRI web site at: www.chesapeakeirb.com. The Office of Human Research Protection (OHRP) Business Manager will bill the industry or corporate sponsor a one-time compliance fee of $750.
