Funding by NIH and “Burden of Disease”

A timely publication was extremely helpful to the BMRC as we tried to match funding with the impact of specific diseases on human health (N Engl J Med 1999;340:1881-7).  It is probable that as decisions are made at the NIH to support specific areas of research, some weight will be given to the data shown in figure 1 of this article.
