Research Interests:  Biostatistics, Sample survey design and inference, Projection, Bayesian statistics, Non-response problem, Clinical trial, Statistical modeling.

Dr. Choi had worked for Parkinson Laboratory of VA Hospital, Minneapolis, Health Department of Ohio, and National Center for Health Statistics until the end of 2007. At the VA hospital, He designed the clinical trial for Symmetral, L-dopa, and other Parkinson medicines using cross-over design. He supervised the operation of clinical trial and wrote reports on the results of the trials. At Ohio Department of Health, he was dispatched to other departments as trouble shooter to solve difficult problems they could not solve; wrote the Ohio State plan for the needed long term care facilities in each county, reported the Cost-benefit analysis of the Ohio state laboratory and PKU program. He worked for National Center for Health Statistics for the past 31 years, was one of the most productive statisticians in the history of NCHS, producing more then 100 papers and reports. His research covers many areas of statistics, U.S mortality projection, Smoothing method for the mortality data collected by two different ICD codes, Non-ignorable non-response model for survey data, Bayesian method to Calibrate the Body mass Index, Prediction of election outcome, Data coding and weighting of health interview survey, multistage cluster sampling design, and other health related topics. He presented his papers and new ideas at over 130 seminars, lectures, special invited sessions and classes, nationally and internationally. He has extensive teaching and supervising experiences: Teaching in High School, Invited Professor of Korea University and Johns Hopkins University, Teaching at special sessions, Supervising 12 students for masters and Ph.D. thesis. Dr. Choi joined the faculty of Department of Biostatistics, Medical College of Georgia in 2008 as Professor of Biostatistics and teaches the Statistics Theory II to graduate students. This course covers the mathematical statistics including Bayesian Statistics, maximum likelihood, testing hypothesis, and estimation.
