Procedure For Shipping Animals From Institution To Institution

When shipping animals from one institution to another, you must follow the steps below:

  1. Obtain a transport box.  You may purchase a transport box from Laboratory Animal Services.

  2. Include dividers if shipping animals that must be separated. Upon request, you can obtain such dividers from Laboratory Animal Services.

  3. Fill the transport box with bedding.  Simply fill the box with the same bedding the animals are using at present.

  4. Include water source.  Some examples of a water source would be such things as potatoes or commercially purchased Napa Nectar that can be obtained through Laboratory Animal Services.

  5. Include food source.  The best food source would be to give the animals a few pieces of the food they are currently receiving.

  6. Contact a corporation that will ship air express.  You may want to contact one of the following reputable shippers:

  • Burlington Air Express (BAX GLOBAL) @ (706)796-7044 or 1-800-354-2224

  • World Courier @ 1-800-221-6600
  • Airnet @ 1-888-888-8463

  7.  If you would like LAS to make shipping arrangements, please fill out a shipping request form.

Please note:  When shipping animals to another institution, you must be certain of what the receiving institution requires.  Does the receiving institution require a Recent Health Report prior to shipment and/or included in the animal shipment container?

Reminder:  You will be charged a fee if you obtain a transport box or any other supplies that must accompany the transport box from LAS.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Attention:  For a $50.00 fee/box, LAS will prepare a transport box to your specifications to include the number of dividers needed, gel packs, food, bedding etc.  We will also deliver it to the room where the animals intended for shipment are housed.  Please click here for the request form to obtain a box.
