C02 Guidelines

If CO2 is utilized for euthanasia a secondary physical means must be utilized to ensure death , such as: thoracotomy, cervical dislocation or decapitation.

Neonates can not be effectively euthanized with CO2, they must be decapitated.

All dead animals must be placed in plastic bags and the bags must be labeled with the following information: PI name, date, species and # of animals in the bag.

The labels will be provided by LAS and they will be in a folder affixed to the dead animal freezer.

Please make sure your staff is appropriately trained, if not LAS can train your staff.
