| Updates from the Nuclear Medicine Programs at MCG
********************** The Nuclear Medicine Technology Programs at MCG continue to enjoy popularity in Allied Health program applications (second only to Physican Assistant), We continue to see a rise in the number of applicants who see the value in the additional knowledge and practice provided in the dedicated baccalaureate program that includes additional clinical and classroom experience in PET, PET/CT, and Nuclear Cardidology. These graduates are eagerly sought by employers for this additional know-how an experience. Even greater flexibility has been added to the innovative distance learning model with the Tegrity lecture application that allows students to gain the value of a full-blown classroom educational experience with the benefit of anytime scheduling. Junior students presented posters at the Georgia Society of Nuclear Medicine Technologists annual meeting at the St. Simons Island on the Georgia coast. First place was awarded for a poster on the Comparison of CEA Scan to PET Scanning in the Evaluation of Colorectal Cancer. Senior students completed an ambitious research project on comparative dose exposures to technologists working in PET settings oppose to routing nuclear diagnostic settings. Plans for submission for publication are currently underway. The close integration of program personnel with daily practice is part of the continuing quality assurance within the NMT programs to assure the highest standards of practice for all of our graduates. We are pleased to welcome Krishnan Prabakaran, MS, CNMT as our dedicated MCG faculty in Atlanta to oversee the expanding numbers of students who benefit from clinical education in Athens and Columbus as well as the Atlanta metro area.
