1.

Why are there two parking offices at MCG?

The MCG Parking and Transportation Services Bureau manages the campus parking for employees, faculty and students.  The MCG Health System Parking Office provides service to MCG Health employees, their patients and visitors.

2.

Where do patients and visitors park?
Patient and visitor parking for the Medical College of Georgia is located at the Student Center. This lot is currently a pay parking lot for patients and visitors only. Students are not allowed to park in this lot for longer than one hour in an effort to maintain enough spaces for School of Dentistry patients.

Patient parking areas in MCG Health lots and decks is strictly enforced.

a3

3.

When will the new parking fee rates go into effect?
The new rates go into effect for fiscal year 200X, beginning on July 1, 200X.

a4

4.

Are there enough parking spaces for MCG employees and staff?
Calculations for next year show that MCG will have over 3,500 registered parkers, and approximately 3,500 available spaces. MCG Parking Services Bureau is working to expand existing lots to accommodate the parking needs of an expected 150-250 contractors on the current building projects.

a5

5.

How will current construction projects affect parking on-campus?
A construction map has been created to show the effects of the current constructions projects.   The loss of over 600 spaces in the parking capacity from the construction of the Health Sciences Building, Cancer Center and the satellite energy plant will be the greatest impact for parking in FY06.

6.

Why do part-time employees have to pay full price for parking at MCG?

Everyone who uses the facility during the day will be charged the same price.  We currently cannot control the number of hours per day a car is parked and charge accordingly.  Day parking passes are available from Parking Services, and part-time employees should consider the cost of day passes in making their parking choice.

a7

7.

Who sets the price for parking fees?
A Parking Advisory Committee and Parking Services extensively researches fee rates and makes recommendations to MCG President Daniel W. Rahn.  The fees are approved by the administration are set to cover expenses with consideration of current economic factors.  Revenues must cover expenses because MCG does not receive state funding for parking.

a8

8.

Why is the price of parking based on location?
A two-tiered pricing plan provides choices to parkers. The pricing is related to the proximity to the core of campus where demand, and consequently cost, is highest.

a9

9.

Why does it seem that parking rates are increasing, but no new parking is being added?
Costs for parking have basically remained constant at MCG for over 20 years, but there is a desperate need of expanding parking to accommodate MCG’s rapid growth within the next few years.  Therefore, costs had to increase to facilitate more parking.
