Police Officer Requirements
(Minimum)
- 21 years of age
- High School graduate or GED
- Valid Georgia or South Carolina Driver's
License
- Excellent Driving Record
- No Felony Convictions
- U.S. Citizen
- Good Physical and Mental Health
- Associate Degree preferred
- Prior Law Enforcement experience
preferred.
- Certified Georgia State Peace Office is
preferred, or the ability to be certified in Georgia.
Communication Service Officer
Requirements
(Minimum)
- 18 year of age
- High School graduate or GED
- Valid Georgia or South Carolina Driver's
License
- Excellent Driving Record
- No Felony Convictions
- U.S. Citizen
- Good Physical and Mental Health
- Prior Law Enforcement Dispatching or
Public Safety experience preferred.
- Certified Georgia State Communications
Office is preferred, or the ability to be certified in Georgia.

first go to the MCG Human Resources website that lists Public Safety
Division's vacant positions, and complete an online application.
You may apply for posted positions until
4:00 p.m. on the Posting End Date. After this time, postings will be
removed. Human Resources will forward all submitted
applications to MCG Police Bureau after the Posting End Date. (
The "Posting End Date" is located on the last line of
each Job Description.)

Selection Process
Phase I – Vacant Position Announcements
and Applications Review
Vacant positions are posted and applications are
requested. The applications are
reviewed, those who meet and /or exceed qualifications are notified and
scheduled for an "Initial Interview".
Phase II – Initial Interview and Preliminary
Background Investigation
- An “Initial Interview” is
conducted:
- Review the salary, requirements
and expectations for the position.
- Inform the applicant of the
Selection Process.
- Complete the following forms:
- Applicant Background Questionnaire
- Criminal History Record Release
and Background Investigation
- Authorization For Release of
Personal Information
- Applicant Writing Sample
- Review with the applicant the
Applicant Background Questionnaire.
- A Preliminary Background
Investigation is conducted on each applicant.
- Applicants that successfully pass
the Preliminary Background Investigation will be scheduled for a:
- Polygraph Examination, and
- Physical Agility Assessment
(Police Officers –
ONLY)
Phase III – Oral Interview Board
- Applicants that complete Phase II
will be scheduled to meet the Oral Interview Board.
- The Board consist of a ( 3 ) to (
5 ) member panel and a Chairman.
- The Board will rate all
applicants, and present their findings to the Chief of Police.
- The Chief will select the
applicant for Phase IV.
Phase IV –
Comprehensive Background Investigation
- The selected Applicant
“Application Packets” will be turned over to the Detective Section for a
background investigation.
- The investigative report will be
turned over to and reviewed with the Major of Police Administration and
the Chief of Police.
- The Chief of Police will select
the applicant to be given a “Conditional Job Offer”.
Phase V –
Conditional Job Offer
- The applicant will be offered a
Conditional Job Offer by the MCG Human Resources Division.
- If the applicant accepts the
offer, the following will be scheduled and must be successfully completed:
- Pre-employment Drug Screen
- Pre-employment Physical (Medical)
Examination
- Psychological Examination
- Complete the Field Training
Program ( 7 weeks in duration)
- * Communication Officer
Certification, within 1st year of employment.
(Communication Service Officers
- ONLY)
- * Police Academy Entrance Exam
(Police Officers –
ONLY)
- * Police Academy – POST BLE
Certification (Police Officers –
ONLY)

Complete a ( 6 ) month probationary
period.

Georgia POST certified as a Law Enforcement Peace Officer or Communication
Officer.

Differential Pay
Officers are eligible for "Differential Pay"
if they work ( 4 ) or more hours during the Evening or Midnight Shifts (
3:00 PM to 7:00 AM).
