What should I look for in a toddler care program?
When placing your child in a toddler program, also consider the
ratios provided. Even though toddlers are more independent, they still
need a great deal of individual care. Many toddlers still the closeness
and reassurance of an adult.
- The environment should have toys that are within your child’s
reach.
- If shelving is present, the shelves should be secured to the
wall for added safety.
- Bathrooms and changing tables should be present.
- Children in the process of potty training need access to a
bathroom while there needs to be a safe, clean place to change
diapers as well.
- The bathroom should always be kept secured to keep children from
entering the bathroom alone.
- The toys in this environment should include items that can be
pushed and pulled, large puzzles for easy grasp, large crayons and
paint that is toxic free.
- There should also be a variety of items that allows for
imaginary play.
- Teachers should encourage speech by talking and repeating words
to children.
- Parents should be provided with information about your child’s
daily activities.
