Otolaryngology / Head and Neck
Surgery
Residency Program
Thank you for your interest in the
Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery residency program at the Medical
College of Georgia Hospitals and Clinics. In addition to the information
below, we encourage you to visit the other links on our site, to familiarize
yourself with our program.
The Medical College of Georgia is actively positioning itself as a leader in
the future of medical education and patient care. Recently we have completed
a research facility which has been dedicated to biomedical research and
molecular medicine and the Medical College of Georgia is actively developing
its program of distance learning and patient caregiving via telemedicine.
The Medical College of Georgia Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery
residency program offers a broad range of clinical and academic experiences.
The residents spend time in three hospitals including the Medical College of
Georgia Hospital and Clinics, the Children’s Medical Center, and the
physically attached Veterans Administration Medical Center.
The program is a five-year program in the Department of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery. The
Otolaryngology/ Head and Neck Surgery residency include a very
extensive exposure to the medical and surgical management of all facets of
our specialty including head and neck cancer, otology, sinus disease, facial
plastics and reconstruction, allergy, pathology, audiology and dedicated
time for research.
The majority of the activities of our residents are in the clinical setting
and we feel that the surgical experience of our residents is second to none
and is accomplished in an ideal atmosphere with primary resident involvement
under faculty supervision. In the last five years more than 40% of our
graduates have chosen to pursue post residency fellowships in various
subspecialties and several are now active successful academicians.
As you are probably aware, the Association of Academic Departments of
Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery has decided to adopt the Central
Application Service (CAS) for otolaryngology. We participate fully with this
application process. Information concerning the application process can be
obtained from the web at
ERAS - The Electronic
Residency Application Service.
Several of you have inquired about the number of applicants we have received
in the past. Since 1996 we have ranged from a low of 109 candidates to a
high of 204candidates per year. We grant 30 interviews per year from this
candidate list. This year we will begin the interview process in early
January and it will be completed by mid February.
If you are interested in an Otolaryngology subspecialty student rotation please contact
Dr. T. Andrew Albritton, Assistant Dean for Curriculum, Medical College of
Georgia, Augusta, GA 30912 or call his secretary at (706) 721-3217 so

us for approval of that rotation.
Again, we are pleased that you have inquired and hopefully wish to apply to
our program. If I can personally be of any help or answer any specific
