Call for speakers
The 28th annual meeting of the Southeastern Pharmacology Society will be held at the Augusta Marriott Hotel and Suites Oct. 12-13. The deadline to submit CVs for those interested in participating as regional speakers is tomorrow. Graduate students and postdoctoral fellows are encouraged to participate in platform and poster sessions.

Relay for Life
The 14th annual Relay for Life, an overnight event that honors cancer survivors and raises money for the American Cancer Society, begins at 7 p.m. tomorrow at the Family Y on Wheeler Road. Also this year, enrollment in the Cancer Prevention Study-3 will begin at 5 p.m. at the same location.

Wellness Center classes
Registration for six-week summer instructional programs in Yoga, Dance (Salsa), Body Sculpt on the Ball and Studio Cycling (reserved seating) are under way. Classes begin Monday, May 21.

PFCC conference
MCG Health System faculty, staff, patients and families are invited to a patient- and family-centered care conference Tuesday, May 15 with keynote speaker Dr. William Schwab of the University of Wisconsin. There will be two sessions, 8 a.m. to noon and 1-5 p.m. in the Large Auditorium.

Posture study
A student and faculty research group in the Department of Occupational Therapy is studying posture at the workstation. Full-time employees age 20-65 who spend at least half their workday at a computer may participate; they will take a written survey and have their posture assessed.

Wee Wisdom
Wee Wisdom is a series of free parenting programs for caregivers of children age 5 and younger held every Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. in the CMC Family Resource Library. Dr. Nancy Webb in the Department of Pediatrics will speak on the role of fathers May 16 and preparing for parenthood May 23.

The deadline for 2008 parking registration is Friday, May 18. Register at

Free asthma screenings
Free lung function tests and screening questionnaires for asthma will be offered Friday, May 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the main lobby in the Children’s Medical Center as part of the Nationwide Asthma Screening Program presented by the American College of Asthma, Allergy and Immunology.

Bike rodeo
The Children’s Medical Center and Kohl’s Cares for Kids will present the second annual free bike rodeo Saturday, May 19 in the Kohl’s parking lot from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to teach children how to ride safely. Kids should bring their bicycle and a helmet; additional helmets will be on hand, along with games and activities. T-shirts will be given to the first 100 children.

Faculty promotion workshops
The Career Development and Education Center will offer two workshops to prepare faculty for promotion: “Educator’s Portfolio” Tuesday, May 22 from 4-5 p.m. and “Promotion and Tenure” Tuesday, June 19 from 4-5 p.m., both taught by Dr. Ruth-Marie Fincher in room 1847 of the Sanders Research and Education Building.

SEEP advisors needed
Clinical mentors/advisors in all areas are needed to provide shadowing experience to college-level students in the Student Educational Enrichment Program on Thursday afternoons from 1-5 p.m. June 7 through July 12. Other times may be arranged. Sign up by Wednesday, May 23.

Kids Summer Camp
The Wellness Center will offer six weekly sessions of the Active BONES Kids Camp beginning Monday, June 4 for children age 6-12. The cost is $100 per session and is open to children whose parents or grandparents are students, faculty, staff, house staff or post-doctoral fellows of MCG, MCGHI or PPG, or Wellness Center members.

A bake sale for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society will be held Friday, May 25, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the second-floor lobby of the Sydenstricker Wing of the hospital.

Faculty skills workshops
The Career Development and Education Center will offer a workshop titled “Tips on How to Give a Great Lecture” Thursday, May 31 from 4-5 p.m. by Drs. Chris White and Ralph Gillies in room 1847 of the Sanders Research and Education Building. Dr. White will also present “Using Digital Resources to Enhance Your Presentations” Tuesday, June 5 from 4-5 p.m. in room 163 of the Greenblatt Library.

Year-end planning dates
Closing dates for year-end planning for fiscal 2007 have been posted at www.mcg.edu/comptroller/index.htm. The PeopleSoft requisition system will be available through Thursday, May 31. Managers for each academic and administrative department should check the Web site for other dates.

New gift shop hours
The Children's Medical Center gift shop, Ferns & Fossils, has new hours: Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., closed Sundays.
