Training and compliance month under wayDon’t forget HIPAABy Sharron Walls November is Training and Compliance Awareness Month at MCG, with several campuswide requirements to be met and individual departments participating as well. All employees should have their five-part online HIPAA training completed and ethics policy and confidentiality statement acknowledgement forms returned to Human Resources by Nov. 30. MCG employees are accountable for these annual requirements. To check your online learning status and access and complete any remaining HIPAA lessons, go to www.educode.com/mcg and follow the sign-in instructions. Allow approximately 10 minutes per test. Contact the Office of Institutional Audit and Compliance at ext. 1-2661 if you have trouble logging in. Employees without ready access may use computers in the Greenblatt Library or Human Resources training room. To print the ethics policy and confidentiality statement acknowledgement forms, visit www.mcg.edu/Policies/9001.html and www.mcg.edu/hr/MCGConfidentStatement_02-2006.pdf, respectively. Review, sign and return to HR by fax, ext. 1-1996, or campus mail, HR Records, HS-1121H. These tasks are either federal or MCG requirements that apply to all workforce members, said Christine Adams, compliance and privacy coordinator in the Office of Institutional Audit and Compliance, adding that their goal is 100 percent compliance by Nov. 30. A manager’s refresher course has been developed by Human Resources for managerial employees who may need to review policies and procedures. “It’s been shown that regular training for managers helps ensure fairness and consistency in the workplace and minimizes risk to organizations,” said Susan Norton, director of human resources. Managers expected to participate in phase one of the course will receive a separate communication from HR’s Training and Education Section with the link to this online training. Every three years, employees in the Office of Human Research Protection meet certain training requirements. Employees affected this year will be notified. Training related to the Identity Protection Initiative is expected to be available next November. All departments with annual training requirements are encouraged to adopt November as Training and Compliance Awareness Month. For information on joining this coordinated effort, contact Debra Arnold at ext. 1-3196. |
