![]() Team MCG cranks up the creativityby Christine Hurley Deriso MCG divisions are muscling their way into the record books – some more literally than others – for Team MCG, the university’s annual employee giving campaign. The divisions are short on pride and long on creativity in finding fun and motivational ways to raise funds for the campaign. For instance, the Division of University Advancement sponsored a tricycle race, with administrators battling it out for a chance to burn rubber on the grounds of the Alumni Center. Division employees made donations to Team MCG on behalf of the participating administrators—Vice President R. Bryan Ginn Jr., Associate Vice President for Gift Planning Tony Duva, Associate Vice President for Development Betty Meehan and Director of Strategic Communications Caryl Cain Brown. The division raised $303.15 for the event, with Mr. Duva and Ms. Meehan bringing in the most donations. The victors donned helmets for their June 2 race. Scott Henson, director of Alumni Affairs, refereed as Ms. Meehan put her pedals to the metal and whizzed past Mr. Duva – a former college basketball star, no less. Mr. Duva acknowledged he had no legs to stand on as he ate Ms. Meehan’s dust. But with MCG being the clear winner, there were no sore losers (aching shins notwithstanding). The money was designated to the Alzheimer’s Research Fund. Also up for a challenge were the employees of Information Technology Support and Services, who sponsored a pie derby. Donations were made in the names of Vice President Beth Brigdon, Director of Infrastructure Services Doogie Howser, Director of Application Systems Camille Morgan, Director of Security Administration Mark Staples and Director of Support Services Ed Townsend. The division raised more than $5,700 for MCG’s Information Technology Expendable Account and held a picnic May 13 at North Augusta’s Riverview Park to coronate Ms. Morgan, the top donation generator, with a pie in the face. Victory, she noted, was sweet. The Division of Human Resources aimed for a more genteel approach, sponsoring a silent auction that generated $126. Donated items included a Thomas Kincade print, a Thomas Kincade tea light cottage and candles. For more information about Team MCG, visit www.mcg.edu/teammcg. |
