Academic Council elects new officers

Faculty development and student affairs are high priorities for this year’s Academic Council, according to Dr. Rick Callan, who will assume the duties of vice chair July 1.
The Academic Council, on behalf of the General Faculty Assembly, addresses university issues related to students, faculty governance, and policies and procedures that require faculty input or approval. MCG President, Daniel W. Rahn, serves as ex-officio chair of the council.
“It is our goal to continue the momentum of the programs set in motion by my predecessors, particularly in the areas of faculty development and student affairs,” said Dr. Callan, assistant professor of oral rehabilitation
Academic Council members also oversee all faculty committees and help deliberate, navigate and strategize institutional advancement.
The council elected fiscal 2006-07 officers and new committee members during its May 18 meeting.
Officers are Vice Chair Elect Dr. Martha Tingen, associate professor at the School of Medicine and Secretary/Treasurer Pam Cook, assistant dean of nursing administration.
Committee members are:
- Membership, Voting and Nominations Subcommittee: Dr. Lynette
McCluskey, assistant professor of graduate studies; Dr. Keith Volkman,
associate professor of oral biology and maxillofacial pathology; Dr.
Jaspal Gujral, associate professor of medicine; Jacqueline Miller,
assistant professor of behavioral nursing; Nathan Herz, assistant
professor of occupational therapy; Kathy Davies, assistant professor,
Greenblatt Library.
- Statues Review Subcommittee: Maribeth Johnson, assistant
professor of biostatistics; Dr. Barry Dale Hammond, assistant professor
of oral rehabilitation; Dr. Mary Forsyth, assistant professor of
medicine; Dr. Georgia Narsavage, associate dean of nursing
administration; Eric Meaders, assistant professor of biomedical and
radiological technologies; Gail Anderson, associate professor,
Greenblatt Library.
- Faculty Appointment, Promotion, Tenure and Post-Tenure
Subcommittee: Dr. Bonnie Dadig, chair of the physician assistant
program; Dr. Carlos Isales, associate director of the institute of
molecular medicine and genetics; Dr. Jeanette Andrews, assistant
professor of graduate studies; Kevin Bradford, instructor, Greenblatt
Library.
- Faculty Grievance Subcommittee: Dr. James Dias, associate
professor of biostatistics; Dr. Joseph Konzelman, professor of oral
biology and maxillofacial pathology; Dr. Jeff Wilkins, assistant
professor of family medicine; Nancy Stark, instructor in physiological
