Academic Council elects new officersby Rachel Sampson Faculty development and student affairs are high priorities for this year’s Academic Council, according to Dr. Rick Callan, who will assume the duties of vice chair July 1. The Academic Council, on behalf of the General Faculty Assembly, addresses university issues related to students, faculty governance, and policies and procedures that require faculty input or approval. MCG President, Daniel W. Rahn, serves as ex-officio chair of the council. “It is our goal to continue the momentum of the programs set in motion by my predecessors, particularly in the areas of faculty development and student affairs,” said Dr. Callan, assistant professor of oral rehabilitation Academic Council members also oversee all faculty committees and help deliberate, navigate and strategize institutional advancement. The council elected fiscal 2006-07 officers and new committee members during its May 18 meeting. Officers are Vice Chair Elect Dr. Martha Tingen, associate professor at the School of Medicine and Secretary/Treasurer Pam Cook, assistant dean of nursing administration. Committee members are:
The following outgoing council members were recognized for their service: Dr. Zheng Dong, chair of the Strategies Responsibilities Committee; Dr. William Salazar, chair of the Faculty Development Subcommittee; Marilee Creelan, chair of the Statues Review Subcommittee; Dr. Arthur Smith, chair of the Faculty Appointment, Promotion, Tenure and Post-Tenure Subcommittee; Dr. Andria Thomas, chair of the Faculty Evaluation of Administrators Program; and Dr. Jagadishwar Devkota, secretary/treasurer.
