SWELL Award

In Saluting the Work, Excellence, Leadership and Lives of those who comprise MCG, the Beeper asks for your nominations for students, faculty or staff whose work has made a difference on and off campus. The Beeper spotlights a student or employee nominated by his/her peers for outstanding achievement.

Cynthia McKie is SWELL

This issue’s SWELL employee is Cynthia McKie, office associate in the Division of Student Affairs. Ms. McKie was nominated by a peer who noted, “During the IT Security Fair in October, Cynthia worked tirelessly to handle all of our logistical concerns in the Student Center. She truly went above and beyond the call of duty to assist our project team members. Thanks in part to Cynthia’s efforts, the event was a huge success.”

A native of North Augusta, S.C., Ms. McKie is a graduate of Strom Thurmond High School in Edgefield. She went to work immediately after high school at SCE&G, then worked as an office manager for an MCG School of Dentistry alumnus. She has served MCG for 20 years in the Division of Student Affairs. “I love the planning and seeing the interaction between students and faculty in this job,” she said. “I like to see everybody happy and satisfied at an event and that makes me feel like I’ve accomplished the job that was assigned.  I was taught by the greatest parents in the world, that I should always treat others the way I would like to be treated and I try hard to live by that daily.  I’ve really been fortunate to work with a great group of people. We really are like a family and they call me ‘Mama Cyndi.’”

When she’s not at work, Ms. McKie enjoys spending time with her Daughter and Goddaughter, shopping, bowling, singing in the choir and serving as the secretary at Old Macedonia Church in North Augusta.
