Mr. Wagner joins transplant program
Tom Wagner has joined MCG
Health, Inc. as administrative officer of the transplant program.
He will provide
administrative leadership for renal and pancreatic transplantation,
including the clinical and business aspects of all phases of the transplant
process, financial management and regulatory compliance. Additionally, he
will help the cardiac transplant program become operational.
Mr. Wagner comes to MCG
Health, Inc. after completing a 21-year career as an Air Force Medical
Service Corps Officer, with progressively responsible leadership roles
ranging from outpatient clinics to academic medical centers and health plan
management.
He earned a bachelor’s
degree from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Penn. and completed his
master’s degree at Cornell University. He is board-certified in health care
management and a diplomate in the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Faculty named to editorial board
Two MCG faculty members have been named to the editorial board of CHEST,
the journal of the American College of Chest Physicians.
Drs. James Richard Gossage Jr. and Harold M. Szerlip begin their
five-year terms on the board this month. Dr. Szerlip has also been named to
the editorial board of Clinical JASN, the journal of the American Society of
Nephrology.
Dr.
Gossage is a pulmonologist specializing in pulmonary vascular diseases. Dr.
Szerlip is a nephrologist whose research focuses on preventing and treating
acute renal failure and evaluating and treating hypertension.
Dr. Gossage came to MCG in 1994 from Vanderbilt University School of
Medicine in Nashville, Tenn., where he was an assistant professor of
medicine and the director of the Pulmonary Medicine Surgical Suite at the
university’s Center for Lung Research.. He is a 1984 graduate of Rush
Medical College in Chicago and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in
pulmonary and critical care at Vanderbilt.
Dr. Szerlip came to MCG in 2001 from Tulane University School of Medicine
in New Orleans, where he was the associate chair of medicine. He is a 1979
graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and completed a renal-electrolyte
fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in 1986. Dr.
Szerlip also earned a master’s degree in education from the University of
Pennsylvania in 1991.
Obituaries
Estelle Mae Wright, a retired patient care
assistant in Ambulatory Care Services, died Dec. 24, at age 81. Mrs. Wright
served MCG for 30 years. Survivors include sisters Elease W. Tarver, Ruby L.
Flowers and Catherine Gant and brother Herman Wright.
Myrtle Smith Young, a retired linen services
worker, died Dec. 7, at age 90. Ms. Young served MCG for 25 years. She was a
member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Survivors include daughters Dorothy
Higgins and Myrtle Williams, Evans; brother Ceaser Smith; sister Harriett,
T. Bullard and four grandsons.
