Local artists color Greenblatt Library
The Robert B. Greenblatt, M.D. Library at the Medical College of Georgia
offers a colorful start to the new year with a display by local artists
Matthew Whitford, Karen Lind Banker and Sharon Taylor Padgett.
Through Jan. 31, the library will display
Mr. Whitford and Ms. Banker’s pieces on the second floor and Ms. Padgett’s
on the first floor.
A student in the MCG Department of Medical
Illustration, Mr. Whitford is displaying charcoal drawings that utilize form
and light. He believes the contours of the human body can come together in a
drawing to “create something beautiful and moving.”
Ms. Banker works primarily in water media and collage. She describes her
paintings as “representational-impressionistic” featuring a wide variety of
colors and subjects. She hopes her watercolors offer the freedom of
exploration for viewers to use their imaginations and “get lost in them.”
Ms. Padgett has been painting in oils and acrylics for 30 years.
Originally from Allendale, S.C., she grew up in Florida, and was influenced
by her tropical surroundings. Her subjects include portraits, landscapes and
life at the beach.
The exhibition, sponsored by the MCG Arts Council, is free and open to
the public during the library’s business hours, Monday-Thursday, 7:30 a.m.
to midnight; Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and
Sunday, noon to midnight.
