Forget flowers and candy: Send a song and a smile
What do you get when you combine a dentistry professor,
a software engineer, a retired executive and a retired colonel with songs
and tuxedos? A unique valentine present, of course.
It’s not such a logical conclusion for most of us, but
for Dr. Joseph Konzleman, the equation makes perfect harmony. The professor
of oral medicine has been joining his voice with other members of the Garden
City Chorus for over a decade to fill hearts with joy on Valentine’s Day. He
and fellow crooners, retired executive Al Bey, Savannah River Site software
engineer George Brown and retired US Army Col. Dr. Bob Reichl comprise one
of many quartets the chorus will send out on Valentine’s Day to help suitors
across the CSRA woo their loved ones.
For $50, the tuxedo-clad gents will go where directed,
croon a couple of love songs and present the recipient with a red rose and
card.
“It sure beats flowers and candy, and it’s a lot
cheaper than jewelry,” said Dr. Konzelman.
Visa, Mastercard and personal checks are accepted.
Proceeds help the not-for-profit chorus support charities, including the
Harmony Foundation, dedicated to introducing music into young people’s
lives.
The chorus members, who sing a cappella four-part
harmony, have traveled to homes, offices, restaurants, hospitals and nursing
homes to deliver their musical messages. “I remember times when the wife
started crying, then the husband started crying, then the whole family was
crying,” said Dr. Konzelman, noting the emotional impact.
Reservations are limited. After Feb. 10, cost is $65.
