WebChat@Greenblatt now available

The Greenblatt Library will soon offer a chat service to better serve students, faculty and staff.

Available Feb. 21, WebChat@Greenblatt connects library patrons to librarians in real-time for help searching information resources, Web sites or print materials.

“WebChat gives Greenblatt Librarians an exciting tool to answer brief questions, and suggest sources to consult,” said Dr. Mark Spasser, professor of education and library services. “If your question is too complex to answer via WebChat, we may suggest continuing our conversation via e-mail, phone or a research consultation.”

WebChat uses tools already familiar to most MCG personnel: free chat software available from AOL or Yahoo. To participate, add the contact/buddy name libchatmcg (all lower case) to your contact list. The Greenblatt Library chat service id is the same (libchatmcg) for both AOL and Yahoo. Simply send a message to initiate a chat session using your preferred messenger service.

WebChat is available from 1-5 p.m., Monday – Thursday, via either the “Quick Links” box on every Web page or on the “Ask A Librarian” page on at www.lib.mcg.edu. Dr. Spasser noted that through a partnership with librarians at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Library, MCG plans to extend the hours of chat service. “We believe this partnership will benefit the MCG community by allowing us to better serve your needs,” he said.

The Greenblatt library is open Monday-Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to midnight, Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, noon to midnight. For more information about WebChat, contact Dr. Spasser at mspasser@mcg.edu.
