Askiel Bruno, M.D.
Professor, Dept. of Neurology

Dr. Bruno served as Director of Stroke Program and Professor of Neurology at the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis from April 1995 until his arrival at MCG in September 2008. Prior to that he served as Director of Stroke Program at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine from August 1988 until March 1995, where he was recognized as Neurology Faculty of the Year in 1991 by Neurology Residents.

Dr. Bruno was the Principal Investigator for a NINDS RO1 Grant which dealt with treatment of hyperglycemia in ischemic stroke, and donates much of his time as an Ad Hoc Manuscript Reviewer, Liason for Stroke and member of the Stroke Council with the American Heart Association, as an Examiner for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology Oral Examinations, as a member of the AMA Board of Directors, and as a trainer of numerous Stroke Fellows during his tenure at Indiana University School of Medicine. Currently he works on the Steering Committe for Carotid Occlusion Surgery Study (COSS) -- an NINDS sponsored trial to compare stroke recurrence in patinets with cartid occlusion treated either with extracranial-to-intracranial (EC-IC) anastomisis or aspirin, and on the Endpoint Classification Committee for Warfarin Aspirin Reduced Cardiac Ejection Fraction (WARCEF) Trial -- an NINDS sponsored trial to compare clinical outcomes in patients with low cardiac ejection fraction in sinus rhythm treated with either warfarin anticoagulation or aspirin.
