Adding References Manually to an EndNote Library

While users take advantage of EndNote's efficient automated methods of entering references into an EndNote Library, there may be circumstances when it may be necessary to add references manually.

To add references manually:

  1. Open an EndNote Library (*.enl).
  2. References > New Reference [new reference window opens]
  3. At "Reference type" pull-down menu, select what describes the reference: Journal article, book chapter, dissertation, etc.
  4. Click a reference field within the cursor to "box" or "highlight" the field, then add or edit data in that field. (Fig. 7)
  5. Close the Reference window to save the record.

Hint: enter author data as last, first (separated by comma)
Example: Douglas R. Keskula would be entered as
    Keskula, Douglas R.
    Keskula, D. R.

To enter multiple authors, press Enter after entering each author's name.
