EndNote Command Menus

The following actions are possible from the EndNote 7.0 top menu bar (Fig. 6):

File

  • create and open EndNote Libraries
  • import and export references into Libraries
  • save and print functions
  • close Libraries and exit EndNote

Edit

  • set EndNote preferences
  • create, locate, and edit Output Styles (publication or format styles)
  • create, locate, and edit Import Filters; filters identify "tags" on text documents and transfers data to certain "fields" in the reference
  • create, locate, and edit Connection Files; connection files use Z39.50 protocols to search and retrieve references from remote databases (for example, PubMed)
  • cut, copy, and paste functions

References

  • create, search, and edit references in Libraries
  • show, hide, and sort references in Libraries
  • find duplicate references in Libraries

Tools

  • show and hide Preview Window
  • configure Handheld device with EndNote
  • connects with word processing software to
    • insert references in documents
    • use Manuscript Templates to format documents in specific publication style
    • create Term Lists for uniform listing of authors, journals, and keywords in a document
