An EndNote Library has "two" windows:
An upper Library windows displays the references in the Library.
A lower Preview windows displays a selected reference in the specified Output Style; the Preview window may be minimized.

Fig. 4 - Highlighting Burt reference displayed in Preview Window in APA (5th) Style.

In Fig. 4, the "handwashing" Library has the reference by Burt highlighted in the upper Library window; the highlighted reference is previewed in APA style in the lower Preview window. Up to five columns may be displayed in the Library window and are set up at:
Edit > Preferences > Display Fields

The reference window allows the creation, editing, and deletion of individual references in a Library. Each reference is a type (journal, book, dissertation, etc.) and each type of reference has fields (author, title, publisher, etc.). Click a field in an open reference window to highlight the field - edit content as needed; use Tab to move down to the next field or Shift+Tab to move up a field. Closing the reference window will accept changes to the reference.

In the example below(Fig. 5), the author field is highlighted to edit the text.
