Direct import from PubMed (Fig. 9):

  1. Open an EndNote Library (*.enl).
  2. Search PubMed.
  3. Check each reference to be saved.
  4. Change the pull-down display menu from the default setting “Summary” to "MEDLINE".
  5. Press Display button.
  6. Press Save button; Save As box opens, save to directory of choice as plain text (*.txt) file.

In EndNote:

7. File > Import (Import box opens)(Fig.10):Import Data File – click “Choose File” and retrieve saved plain text file.

  • Import Option – choose “PubMed (NLM).”
  • Press Import button.

References transfer to the EndNote Library.

As diplayed in Fig. 10:

  • the import data file “placebo effect in PubMed.txt” is chosen.
  • at Import Option, "PubMed (NLM)" is selected as the most appropriate filter from the menu choices.
  • the pull-down menu displaying choices for Import Option conceals the Import button.
