Create an EndNote Library

All references are stored in EndNote “Libraries”. To create an EndNote Library:

1. File >  New > (New reference library box opens)

2. Provide a file name and click Save (Fig. 1).

All EndNote Libraries have an *.enl file extension. EndNote Libraries are large: maximum capacity of an EndNote Library is 32,000 references or 32MB, whichever comes first.

TOP MENU BAR

From File Menu

  • create and open EndNote Libraries
  • import and export references for EndNote Libraries
  • control output form of EndNote references

From References Menu

  • edit, delete, search, show, hide, sort, and find references in EndNote Libraries
  • references contain data fields for specific information: author, title, publisher, year, etc.

ENDNOTE WINDOWS (Fig. 2)

Library window – where references are managed; five fields may be displayed (three fields shown : author, year, and title).

Preview window – hangs below the Library window and is used to view output form of EndNote references. Preview window may also be hidden when not in use.

Reference window (not shown; see section “Create a reference manually” [Fig. 3]) - pops open to create a new reference, or to view or manually edit field data in existing Library references.
