2001-PresentPresident Rahn envisions continual growth for the Medical College of Georgia in the twenty-first century. Since 2001, MCG recruited over 150 faculty members, including three Deans and two Vice-Presidents. The university also plans to enhance research, education, and clinical services at MCG. To obtain these goals, the university developed a 10-year physical master plan that consolidates all aspects of the campus into a village. The new campus will have more green spaces and buildings, and less surface parking spaces. The Master Plan contains two major building projects, the Wellness Center and Phase II of the Interdisciplinary Research Buildings. The Wellness Center opened in January 2003, and it offers physical fitness facilities to faculty, staff, students, and families. Construction continues on Phase II of the Interdisciplinary Research Buildings, and the construction company projects a March 2004 completion date. After completion, the building will double research space, which will allow the institution to employ more researchers. The master plan also includes increasing research on the MCG campus, which led to university officials creating five new research centers: genomic medicine, disaster/operational medicine, immunology, neuroscience, and vision science.

The plan includes increasing research and opening the Cancer Center for Excellence. Dr. Rahn is a national expert on Lyme disease, and the Castle Connolly Guide selected him as one of "America’s Top Doctors" for the last three years. He is a chairman of the Health Strategies Council, which assesses the health needs of Georgians and makes recommendations to the Governor. Library
