Demographics & Population 

Kaiser Family Foundation StateHealthFacts - On the map, click on Georgia.This site shows demographics and economy, health status, health costs and budgets, medicaid and other Georgia statistics.

Galileo - Under the databases A-Z selection, choose Census Data or Government Publications. These links will provide census data and databases pertaining to the state of Georgia and some federal government information such as the GPO monthly catalog, containing US government publications. 

Georgia CityScapes - provides profiles on the history, people, government and economy of 173 cities with the population of 10,000 or more. 

Georgia Counties & Georgia Maps
The Carl Vinson Institute of Government at the University of Georgia is the home page for this information. Use the table of contents for Georgia Counties and Maps. 

Georgia Counties - information includes the date counties were established, the estimated population for each Georgia County from 1990-1998, county web sites, tax rates, county maps, names of officials, a link to the Association County Commissioners of Georgia, Professional Associations for Counties and information resources for counties, including state and federal resources. 

Georgia Maps - contain a wealth of information dividing maps of the state in physical, political, demographic, historical, and other (US & worldwide information). The Georgia GIS Data Clearinghouse provides access to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) resources of Georgia for use by government, academia and the private sector. 

 

Georgia County Snapshots – From the Department of Community Affairs this site contains an overview, demographics using the 2000 census information, the economy and government including per capita spending and poverty level of that county. This is a very user-friendly site with graphs and charts. 

Health Related Sources

Center for Disease Control   - The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is recognized as the lead federal agency for protecting the health and safety of U.S. citizens. Other useful sites from the CDC include:

Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System - Tracks Major Health Risks Among Americans

MMWR - Weekly report based on  reports to CDC by state health departments.  Search available for back issues.

National Center for Injury Prevention and Control - (NCIPC) works  to reduce morbidity, disability, mortality, and costs associated with injuries.

National Center for Health Statistics -  Includes data from Healthy People 2010

SEERS Data & Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System - National Program of Cancer Registry

Community Indicators – From the Department of Community Affairs this database for Community Indicators has been compiled for all 159 counties. State and national figures have been included where applicable. Considerable care has been given to making the data available in a user-friendly format. The data is searchable through an interactive database program that allows users to generate and print out multi-layered reports. The Community Indicator reports include the following eight key community conditions: Demographic, Economic, Fiscal, Education, Health, Environmental, Social and Civic Participation. 

Georgia County Guide– From this page, click on GA Statistics System on the right.   This statistics system will customize health and other statistics from the latest data sources: 1. The county-by-county (or cross sectional) analysis, search in the public health variable; 2.Year-by-year (time series) analysis for each county, for up to 30 years, for 30 variables; 3. Employment in one or more counties, for 10 major economic sectors. 


Georgia Department of Community Health – This agency holds authority for purchasing, planning and regulating health care in the state. To find health statistics such as Medicaid recipients go to the Annual Reports on the left sidebar under Issues and Programs. Click on FY 2002 Annual Report. 

Georgia Division of Public Health – The Georgia Division of Public Health (GDPH) is the lead agency entrusted by the people of the State of Georgia with the ultimate responsibility for the health of the state's citizens. Click on Health and Data to find  vital statistics.  Use the Counties and Districts to find specific county data. 

OASIS -  From the Georgia Department of Human Resources, Division of Public Health, Office of Health Information and Policy. This database provides access to the Georgia Division of Public Health's standardized data repository. Statistics can be queried for specific Georgia counties or statewide.  The help screen and tutorial make this a user-friendly database.
