Purpose Statements for Library DepartmentsBusiness Services provides effective and efficient administrative support to the Director of Libraries, Assistant Director of Library Operations, and library faculty and staff. The department is responsible for managing fiscal planning and implementation; facilitating personnel procedures; coordinating facilities and building security; and gathering and reporting statistics. Collection Services acquires, organizes, and provides access to print, media and electronic resources in a cost effective manner and plans for the acquisition and implementation of new organizational methods and effective technologies. The department is responsible for assuring bibliographic integrity of collections data in the Library and the integrated Library system and manages information organization, storage, retrieval and transfer of bibliographic information. Specifically this unit provides acquisitions, cataloging, serials control, collection development, interlibrary loan and document delivery. Education and Information Services assumes leadership in providing quality user-based support of the information needs of the MCG community. This department provides a user-centered single point of contact for Library services at the Library Information Center and provides educational services for information literacy, lifelong learning skills, curriculum, clinical and research supportThe Learning Resource Center of the Georgia Statewide AHEC Network partners with the Greenblatt Library and other units of MCG to provide an electronic infrastructure offering Library resources continuing education, administrative communications and enhanced distance learning applications to students, preceptors and AHEC centers throughout the state of Georgia. Library Technology Services is the technical support unit for the Greenblatt Library. This dynamic service unit operates in a diverse systems environment, with Novell, NT and Unix servers. The department is responsible for the systems administration and planning of the library's integrated computing network, as well as overall Library web page design and development. Technical expertise is provided in the implementation, integration and maintenance of LAN workstations in a distributed client/server operating environment. Specifically, this unit oversees the library staff workstations, electronic classrooms, student computing lab, and maintenance of the GALILEO statewide initiative workstations. Library Technology Services is also a main technical support hub for the statewide GIL project as one of the state's four server site coordinators. Special Collections is committed to acquiring, organizing, preserving and making available historical collections related to the Medical College of Georgia and the history of the health sciences. This unit is dedicated to delivering quality service in support of historical and institutional research to Medical College of Georgia affiliates, health science professionals and the community. |
