BlackBerries – not just for cobbler anymore

September 6, 2007

MCG employees who own a BlackBerry personal digital assistant have an advantage over those who have similar devices – a campus service that allows them to instantly receive fully encrypted GroupWise e-mail and appointments on their handheld virtually anywhere in North America.

Changing and adding appointments or contacts is a snap – simply add the information to your GroupWise account and it is automatically synchronized with your BlackBerry in a matter of seconds.

Should your BlackBerry be lost or stolen, the service provides a “kill” feature that remotely removes all information – e-mail, contacts and appointments, ensuring that your information does not fall into unknown hands. If the device is recovered, the information can be quickly and easily restored.

The encryption service between GroupWise and BlackBerry PDAs eliminates the possibility of e-mail interception by a third party, while keeping the convenience of e-mail and calendars your fingertips.

The service is available to MCG, PPG, HCCU, GCHC and MCG Foundation employees with BlackBerries. Integration with GroupWise requires a one-time license payment of $70 plus a $30 annual maintenance fee due at service inception and renewable at the beginning of each fiscal year, a cost-recovery charge for operating the system.
