File Storage

Information Technology Support and Services (ITSS) provides file server space for all faculty and staff for storing their personal as well as departmentally shared folders and documents.  Areas are also provided for applications which need to be shared on the network and for file transfers to other people or workstations. The following file storage areas are available.

The following file storage areas are available:

MYFILES - Your personal file storage area. This space is for documents only. No programs or licensed applications should be stored in this area.

SHARE - Every department has a folder in which its members can share and collaborate on their data files. Like the MYFILES area, program files are not permitted in this storage area.

APPL - Shared application are located in this location. If you need an application shared on the server, you can request to have it added by contacting the appropriate helpdesk. If the application is not public domain then you will be asked to provide a copy of the license and license agreement to be kept on file by ITSS.

XFER - This is the temporary transfer area. You may use this area to transfer files to anyone else on the network. Space in this area is not limited by quotas, but any files or folders you store here will be automatically removed after 48 hours. CAUTION: Since this storage area is public, no sensitive information should be place here under any circumstances.

NetStorage

NetStorage provides the solution for simple, Internet-based access to file storage. NetStorage is a bridge between a MCG's protected Novell storage network and the Internet. It allows users secure file access from any Internet location - with nothing to download or install on the user's workstation.

With NetStorage, you can securely access files from any Internet-enabled machine. You can copy, move, rename, delete, read, and write files between a local workstation and a Novell storage network. This means that access is available from any Internet-attached workstation, anywhere in the world. There is no need to e-mail or copy data from one machine to another.
