MCG and MCGHI Crack Down on Music Piracy

Monday, July 28, 2003

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), a watchdog group that tracks down violators of music piracy, has begun issuing Subpoena’s to Universities requesting the names of suspected violators of Copyright Laws. Several Universities have been served with subpoena’s forcing the university to hand over the names of suspected individuals partaking in Music Piracy. Please read the article "Recording Industry Forces University to Identify Students Suspected of Music Piracy" from The Chronicle of Higher Education.

Although the Medical College of Georgia and MCG Health Inc. have not been served with such subpoenas yet, we would be obligated to comply with these subpoenas should one be served to MCG/MCGHI and it’s Students, Faculty, and Staff. As a member of the MCG/MCGHI community, you are required to comply with MCG and MCGHI policies and procedures related to the Acceptable Computer use (MCG policy 2.4.06 at www.mcg.edu/policies/2406.html) (MCG Health Incorporated policy 12-03 at hi.mcg.edu/aboutus/PDFPolicies/12_03.pdf).

If you have any questions regarding this issue, please forward them to security@mcg.edu for review. Thank you.
