Student GroupWise e-mail tipsheet

What’s my e-mail address?
The default user name is the generally the first letter of your first name followed by the first 15 characters of your last name, followed by "@students.mcg.edu" (e.g. John Doe would be jdoe@students.mcg.edu). Common last names sometimes require more than the first letter of the first name to remain unique.

What’s my username?
The portion of your above e-mail address before the @ symbol.

What’s my password?
Your password will be the letters “mcg”, followed by the first letter of your last name and the last four digits of your social security number (for example – if your name is John Doe and the last four digits of your SSN are 1234 your password would be mcgd1234).

When you logon for the first time, you will be prompted to change your password. Enter your old password. Then choose a new password that is between 8 and 32 characters in length. The new password must be alphanumeric (a combination of numbers and letters).

You will be prompted to reset your password every 90 days. Previously used passwords are remembered and can not be reused. You may reset your password in any of the following ways:

How long will mail stay in my mailbox and folders?
The system will automatically purge all messages that are 180 days old.  The trash is purged approximately every fourteen days.

The system will automatically log you out after 45 minutes of inactivity.  Please Note – Typing text in a message does not count as activity. To compose a long message type it in a word processor and send it as an attachment.

Where can I access my e-mail?
Go to www.mcg.edu and select MyMCG button in the upper right hand corner, log into MyMCG using your GroupWise username and password, Select the My APPs section and Select GroupWise. You will then be required to log in.
