  1. You can create appointments, notes, and tasks, but they will be stored on your local system and only apply to you.
  2. You can receive appointments, notes, and tasks, but they will show up as normal e-mail messages if the client is in POP mode. In IMAP mode, they will show up in the IMAP Calendar folder in Eudora as messages with attachments that have an ICS extension. The attachment, when opened, will let you add the item to your iCal calendar. In Entourage, the items show up in your IMAP Calendar folder as well. In addition, the non-posted items will show up in your Entourage calendar. Declining an item will delete it from your Entourage calendar. Finally, the sender of the calendar items will not receive any indication as to whether an item was accepted or rejected by someone using one of these clients.
  3. Some options (such as priority) are available while others (such as sending a message at a specified time) are not. While a client may support delayed sending, the client has to be running at the time the send is supposed to occur. With Groupwise, the delayed send is handled by the server and can occur even if the sender’s computer is turned off at the time the send is set to take place.
  4. While this option is available for Eudora’s address books, this option is not available on the LDAP address book search, as the information returned is just a list of text which is not parsed into Eudora’s address book format for custom display. Additionally, the search in Eudora is based on a person’s user ID only. So, searching on a person’s first or last name would generally return no results (unless someone’s user ID happened to match another user’s first or last name). However, the ? wildcard is supported for any single character.

Additional notes:
Groupwise is ready to run out of the box. Other e-mail clients have to be configured to connect to the SMTP server and authenticate in order to send mail. Groupwise has access to a complete address book which includes names, e-mail addresses, phone numbers, locations, departments, building and room addresses, etc. Other clients have to access the LDAP address book, which has less information, basically just the names and e-mail addresses. In addition, Groupwise shows the complete address book while the LDAP address book has to be queried for information, so browsing the address book is not available. While Groupwise contacts the e-mail server directly to conduct e-mail transactions, third-party clients must contact the SMTP server and either the IMAP or POP servers in order to send and receive e-mail, which adds two more possible points of failure to the e-mail process.
