Windows Vista and Internet Explorer 7

Windows Vista is the latest operating system offered by Microsoft and comes in several different versions, Home basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate. Due to incompatibility of some standard software in use at MCG, ITSS does not recommend upgrading your business computer to Windows Vista. Products included are some versions of Symantec Antivirus and the VPN Client. In addition neither Banner nor PeopleSoft have been certified for Vista.

Some performance problems have been noted with older PC configurations. Microsoft has created a tool to help you identify if your PC is ready for Vista and point out possible problems. The Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor can be downloaded from the Microsoft web site.

Internet Explorer 7
Information Technology Support & Services strongly advises the MCG community to not upgrade to Internet Explorer 7 at this time. The vendors of our major campus systems such as Banner, PeopleSoft, WebCT Vista and One45 have not yet certified that their products are compatible with Internet Explorer 7. Until these and other systems can be fully tested with the new browser, campus computer users should continue to use Internet Explorer 6.
