Browser Help

Why can't I go back?

Sometimes the back button doesn't seem to work. Continually clicking on it just reloads the current page. This is because you have encountered a page that has a "redirect" on it. This is used to direct the browser to a different page.

For example, say page "A" has a redirect that tells the browser to ignore page "A" and immediately load page "B". We as humans may not even notice that page "A" has suddenly become page "B".

What the browser has done is loaded page "A" and placed a link to it in the Back button's history, and then loaded page "B". So when you click on the back button, you are loading page "A" which redisplays page "B", giving the appearance that you have no back button (or history of where you have been).

You must display a list of the pages that have been recently browsed. Hold the mouse pointer on the back button in Netscape or click the little triangle to the right of the word "Back" in Internet Explorer. This will display a drop-down list of the pages that have been recently browsed. Don't select the first page in the list. This is page "A" which will reload page "B" (the currently displayed page), but a page lower in the list.

This will get you out of a sometimes annoying situation of clicking the Back button and going nowhere.
