XFER volume standards:

Use:
The enterprise wide transfer area, or XFER volume, is provided as a resource for MCG faculty, staff, and associates to temporarily store electronic documents, programs and system backups in order to transfer these items.  This storage area is accessible for read/write access by all who are logged in to the MCG network and by the public for read-only access.  Anyone who wishes to transfer a large amount of data can create a folder on the XFER volume and copy the data to it.

Limits/Restrictions:
Though there are no quotas enabled for the XFER volume, anything stored there will be automatically removed after 48 hours. 

Cautions:
No patient health or other sensitive information should ever be stored on the XFER volume since is accessible by everyone.  In addition, because of the temporary nature of the storage in this area, it should not be used to backup any type of data.  Any data stored on the XFER volume should have an original copy on some other media.

Access Points:
In order to meet our customers’ specific access needs, ITSS provides flexible methods of access for many of the services that we provide.  These various access methods we refer to as "Access Points," and they provide choices which can accommodate differing workstation configurations as well remote access to all of your network resources.

Backups:
The enterprise transfer (XFER) storage area is consider to be temporary storage and is therefore not backed up to any offline media.
