How do I know if I am vulnerable to identity theft?

What do I do if I have been a victim of identity theft?

What precautions can I take not to be a victim?

How can I learn more about identity theft?

How can I check my credit report?

Contact the three credit reporting agencies (see Resources).  By law, residents of Georgia may request up to two free credit reports each year.

How often does identity theft take place?

Estimates vary, but according to the Federal Trade Commission web site, more than 3 million people were victims of identity theft in 2003.

Has anyone at MCG been a victim?

Based on statistics, chances are very good that a number of MCG faculty, staff, and/or students have been victims of identity theft.

Should I be worried?

You should always be vigilant about safeguarding your personal information, as well as the personal information of others.
