Responsibility - Human Resources - Classification, Compensation, and Recruitment
1.0 Purpose: To present the procedures for scheduling a physical and/or drug screening for a potential employee. Additionally, to ensure that potential employees comply with the requirements for the position in which he/she is applying for, one being the necessity of a physical and drug screen. 2.0 Note: Physicals are conducted for those potential employees who will work in the hospital and those who operate machinery or an MCG vehicle. Drug screens are conducted on those potential employees who will have direct patient contact. During the time of posting the position, the Generalist and the hiring manager will determine if a physical and/or drug screen would be required. 3.0 Procedure: Potential Employee Physical and/or Drug Screen 3.1 Responsibility: Classification, Compensation, and Recruitment 3.1.1 Contingently offers the position to the candidate and works out an appropriate time for him/her to take the physical and/or drug screen with Employee Health (EH). 3.1.2 Informs potential employee of the appropriate Identification (ID) to take to EH along with the directions. 3.1.3 HR Generalist uses the IDX system to schedule an appointment for the potential new employee with EH and logs the potential new employees start date on the Hiring Log. 3.1.3.1 HR Generalist or department completes the Employee Health Service Approval form
3.2 Responsibility: Potential Employee 3.2.1 Appears for the appointment with EH. 3.2.2 Presents the appropriate ID to EH. 3.2.3 Takes physical examination and/or drug screen. 3.2.4 Receives first series of TB shots. 3.2.5 May take physical exam depending on the doctor's schedule. 3.3 Responsibility: EH 3.3.1 Schedules first or second appointment with doctor for physical completion and schedules an appointment within the next 3 days for TB reading or initial test. 3.4 Responsibility: Potential Employee 3.4.1 Goes to EH for appointment. 3.5 Responsibility: EH 3.5.1 Reads TB results. 3.5.2 Conducts physical examination if it has not been performed at this point (if applicable). 3.6 Responsibility: EH and Clinical Pathology 3.6.1 Results faxed to HR Assistant and are documented on the Hiring Log. Information is filed in the search file and employees personnel file, if hired. 3.6.1.1.2 If successful, continues with the respective Employment Life Cycle.
3.6.1.1.3 If unsuccessful, no
retest is allowed, and potential employee is notified by Generalist
3.6.1.1.4 If successful,
continues with the respective Employment Life Cycle. 3.6.1.1.5.1 MRO contacts the potential employee to discuss results if questionable. 3.6.1.1.5.2 MRO notifies Assistant Director of Classification, Compensation and Recruitment, 3.6.1.1.5.3 Employment informs potential
employee that they have not successfully passed 3.6.1.1.5.4 Contacts the hiring department and informs them the
potential employee that 3.6.1.1.6 If inconclusive and a retest is permitted: 3.6.1.1.6.1 Employment contacts potential employee to schedule a retest. 3.6.1.1.6.2 Go back to step 3.2. 3.7 Responsibility: Campus Department 3.7.1 Considers the second best candidate or start the recruitment process from the beginning if the results are not successful. |
