THE MEDICAL COLLEGE OF GEORGIA ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURES Office of Primary Responsibility - Human Resources - Benefits Subject: Employee’s Retirement System Enrollment
1.0 Purpose: To present the procedures for enrolling an employee in the Employee’s Retirement System (ERS).
2.0 Note: Newly hired employees who have at least 10 years of creditable service with ERS will be given the option of continuing benefits with ERS when hired. ERS members contribute 1.5% and the employer contributes 10.66%.
3.0 Procedure: Enrolling an Employee in ERS 3.1 Responsibility: Employee 3.1.1 Obtains application from Benefits Office. 3.1.2 Completes membership application if requirements are met. 3.1.3 Turns application into Benefits Office. 3.2 Responsibility: Benefits Office 3.2.1 Receives application. 3.2.2 Reviews application for completeness. 3.2.3 Forwards to Employment. 3.3 Responsibility: Employment 3.3.1 Processor elects ERS participation in PeopleSoft. 3.3.2 Makes a copy of the application. 3.3.3 Sends copy to Records for scanning.
