THE MEDICAL COLLEGE OF GEORGIA ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURES Office of Primary Responsibility - Human Resources - Benefits Subject: Teacher’s Retirement Enrollment
1.0 Purpose: To present the procedures for enrolling an employee in the Teachers Retirement System (TRS).
2.0 Procedure: When work commitment is .5 or greater and the employee is in a permanent position, enrollment in Teacher's Retirement is required and termination of this deduction in the system can occur only if employment is terminated or their work commitment is less than .5. The employee is required to contribute 5% and the employer contributes 9.24% for the current year.
3.0 Procedure: Enrolling an Employee in TRS 3.1 Responsibility: Employee 3.1.1 Completes TRS membership application (Form 2-A). 3.2 Responsibility: Benefits Office 3.2.1 Attaches a photocopy of employee's official identification that shows the date of birth to Form 2-A. (Note: Acceptable forms of identification would be driver's license, certified birth certificate, passport, immigration papers, or state ID issued in lieu of a driver's license). 3.2.2 Makes two copies of Form 2-A: one for employee's file and one for Benefits' records. 3.3 Responsibility: Employment 3.3.1 Processor elects TRS participation in PeopleSoft. 3.4 Responsibility: Benefits Office 3.4.1 Stamps application with manager’s stamp and circles the months in Employee's Contract, which is usually 12 months unless indicated on PAR. 3.4.2 Mails original application to TRSGA. (Note: Address is Two Northside 75, Suite 400, Atlanta, GA 30318). 3.4.3 Sends a copy of membership application to Records for scanning.
