Subject: Retirement Process

 

1.0   Purpose: To present the procedures of the retirement process for an employee who is ready to retire.

 

2.0   Note: Regular retirement eligibility is based on years of service: 1) 10 years and age 60, 2) 25 years of service regardless of age with penalty, 3) 30 years of service regardless of age with no penalty.  An employee can also retire on disability if the employee has 9 ½ years of TRS creditable service and is approved.

 

3.0   Procedure: Employee Retirement Process

3.1   Responsibility: Employee

3.1.1         Meets the requirements for the retirement program in which he/she is applying.

3.1.2         Employee goes to the Benefits Office to complete necessary retirement paperwork.

3.2   Responsibility: Benefits Office

3.2.1         Completes TRS service/disability retirement application with benefits counselor.

3.2.2         Copies forms.

3.2.3         Mails original application to applicable agency.

3.3   Responsibility: TRS/ERS

3.3.1         Reviews application and notifies employee of their decision.

3.3.2         Sends notification of decision to the Benefits Office.

3.4   Responsibility: Benefits Office

3.4.1         Sends a letter of congratulations and explanation of retirement benefits to employee.

3.5   Responsibility: Employee’s Department

3.5.1         Submits a PAR to Employment for retirement.

3.6   Responsibility: Employment

3.6.1         Terminates employee (puts in retirement status) in PeopleSoft.

3.7   Responsibility: Benefits Office

3.7.1         Notifies Financials of employee’s personal and benefits data for billing.

3.8   Responsibility: Financial Services

3.8.1         Bills retiree for eligible benefits monthly from PeopleSoft.
